MRHA - David Morgan

DAVID MORGAN   Died 13th January 2007 aged 78

David was a Member of Olton Men's Hockey in the 1950's/1960's playing at Left Back for the 1st XI and also for Warwickshire and was well known on the Hockey Circuit. When he finished playing he was the Hockey Correspondent for the Daily Telegraph and also reported on Hockey on Local Radio.

He continued to help Olton and when the new Astro Ptich went down in 1988 he was the Treasurer on the Pitch Committee, making certain that the funds were all in place for the pitch to be a success.

He became well know on the Hockey scene countrywide when he started the Easter Motorway Festival the headquarters being at the Aston University Sports Complex. This Festival ran very successfully for may years and is still talked about today by those who were fortunate to participate.

I latter years he ran the Fixtures Bureau which was a great help to Clubs before the Leagues in sorting out fixtures for their Teams. With the coming of League Hockey the demand was not so great, however there were still Teams to be helped who had Fathom and Badger sides.

His working career was spent with Nat Westminster Bank and he was Manager of the Chelmsley Wood Branch when he retired.

David died in Parkway Hospital and his funeral was at Widney Manor Cemetery and this was a quite family affair.

Our condolences go out to his wife Joyce, and to daughter Debbie, and son Neil.

David was a true supporter of Hockey and Olton and will he be missed for all his work and as a friend of many.
